Overview or Month-by-Month Analysis?

A Profile of Drug Use: Long Term Overview or Month-By-Month Analysis?
As each centimeter of a hair sample provides a one-month profile of drug use, the sample can be cut into different lengths to provide the level of detail tailored to your case.

Overview - have these drugs been taken during in requested time period?
The maximum length section that we can analyse is 3cm, which provides an overview of all the drugs that have been taken during the three month period approximately covered by that hair sample. Consecutive three month sections can be analysed to provide a longer-term overview of drug use. For example, if a 12cm sample is taken, the sample can be sectioned into four consecutive three month profiles of drug use to show the total drug use for that year long period approximately.

Month-By-Month  - a profile of abstinence and trends in increasing or decreasing drug use.
Alternatively, a sample can be broken down into 1cm sections. Using 1cm sections offers the most detailed profile of drug misuse that a hair test can provide - a month-by-month profile of drug use. For example, a 12cm hair sample could be cut into twelve 1cm sections to provide a month-by-month profile of drug use for each month of a year.

Analysis on body hair
Due to the varying growth cycles of body and head hair it is difficult to be specific with the time periods covered by body hair samples. For this reason we do not provide a month-by-month analysis on body hair samples.

Detecting Alcohol Use
When detecting alcohol use in hair samples, we always perform a month-by-month analysis in order to ensure that the analysis provides the most detailed information for interpretation by our Reporting Scientists.
