Point of care drug testing in oral fluid and urine

Point of care or onsite testing is a detection technique carried out beside or near to the individual being tested, immediately after they have provided a sample for detection. Typically results occur within 10 minutes and anyone can be trained to perform the simple procedures.

Concateno offers point of care testing solutions for both urine and oral fluid, and we will work with you to decide which sample type is best for your service. Our products include:

Point of care testing provides evidence that a particular drug group is present, such as opiates. Further laboratory analysis is necessary to identify the exact chemical present.

Laboratory drug testing in oral fluid and urine

Concateno's specialist laboratories can perform sample anaylsis at two levels: screening and confirmation. Initial screening is used to determine the presence or absence of drugs or their metabolites. These drug groups are identified by immunoassay testing. The confirmation service is more detailed and will identify and quantify which particular substances are present in the sample.

Both the screening and confirmation methods are fully validated and have been accredited by UKAS as part of the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard. These measures guarantee the quality of the services you receive and we provide the option of a chain of custody procedure when legal defensibility is required.

Breath alcohol testing

Concateno supply a range of alcohol breath testing instruments. All our devices are simple to use and robust. The devices can be used to determine levels of alcohol or as a qualitative screen, giving either a positive or negative result.

Devices can include printer and data storage capabilities and compatibility with PCs for data transfer.

Blood borne virus testing

Concateno provides blood borne virus testing using oral fluid and dried blood spots, testing for the following viruses:

• Hepatitis C
• Hepatitis C Qualitative PCR (only available via dried blood spot)
• Hepatitis B
• HIV

Sample collection takes minutes and any member of staff can perform these tests after training. A Concateno Account Manager will be on hand to provide free training and support. 

The testing methods are more appealing to those with compromised venous access and the simple procedure enables services to perform regular testing and increase awareness of the risks of BBVs. Also, our current customers have found our free waiting room posters and client leaflets particularly valuable in encouraging service users to consider getting tested.

Pregnancy testing for diagnostic use

Concateno can provide a rapid, one-step, visual test for the qualitative detection of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in urine to aid in the early detection of pregnancy. This product is intended for professional diagnostic use only.

Concateno Retriever - web-based results and reporting system

Concateno Retriever enables cutomers to access and analyse the results of the tests they perform and create detailed reports on individual clients or entire regions. The tool allows services to assess trends in drug use and success rates for their clients. The programme is accessed via a secure server, offering live updates from Concateno’s testing laboratory.

Concateno Retriever has been developed to make testing a more effective treatment tool. The previously manual collation of test results into a report summary can now be completed at a touch of a button, saving valuable staff time and ensuring information is readily available so that staff can concentrate on treating their clients.
