From Sobriety to Excess

Concateno provides a range of tests to help you assess sobriety and excessive alcohol use.

What is sobriety or chronic excessive use?

Sobriety testing is an aid in determining if a person has not consumed alcohol over a period of time. Increasing the number of sobriety tests used increases the evidence that the donor has refrained from consuming alcohol. Concateno provide testing for:

Chronic excessive testing is an aid in determining if a person has been drinking excessively over a 3 month period. Excessive alcohol use is classed as drinking 60g or more of pure alcohol a day, according to the World Health Organisation. Using multiple markers increases the evidence by providing corroborative results. Concateno provide testing for:

The bigger picture of alcohol use

Using a combination of multiple tests can create a comprehensive picture of alcohol use by considering long term and recent use. Using the hair test for EtG and FAEE will provide a historic overview and an indication of whether a donor has been using alcohol chronically and excessively. If this was the case then the blood testing could be used as an aid in supporting this. By including the sobriety tests, if the hair testing is normal, this could support claims that alcohol use is not excessive. However, if the hair, alcohol blood test, urine and breath tests are positive, this is an indication that a donor has used alcohol chronically and excessively over a 3 month period and is continuning to consume alcohol.

Concateno TrichoTech always recommend a combination of testing, and do not recommend using an one test on its own. A combination of testing, including a clinical assessment, will provide the most suitable evidence for use in court.
