Benzene Testing

Benzene TestingConcateno provides a benzene exposure biomonitoring service using S-PMA urine testing. This has been specially developed to monitor low levels of benzene, in line with current guidelines, to help you maintain best working practices.

Benzene is a toxic carcinogen; you may be exposed to benzene if you work in certain industries, such as:

  • Maritime
  • Oil, gas and chemicals – production and transportation
  • Coke and coal production
  • Petroleum storage and distribution
  • Steel production
  • Environmental clean-up and remediation
  • Fire fighting & emergency services
  • Plastic manufacturing

Benzene is linked to causing AML, an adult form of leukaemia, especially through long term, low level occupational exposure. To help protect your workforce, regular testing of staff will indicate that you are adhering to health and safety practices. The simple and cost effective test requires just a small urine sample which is returned to our laboratory for analysis.

Features

  • S-PMA is a metabolite specific to benzene, unlike phenol which can be produced by other substances in the body
  • S-PMA testing is sensitive enough to meet the lower occupational exposure limits

Benefits

  • S-PMA testing takes into accounts exposure levels in the body, unlike airborne testing methods which measure environmental contamination
  • Sample is easy to collect and non-invasive
  • Blood sampling not required
  • Cost effective
